You may face a suspension for a fixed period of time after which your license will be reinstated.  Your license may also be reinstated if you comply with certain parameters as set by the Department of Motor Vehicles.  Driving with a suspended license is a criminal violation which may carry a sentence of jail time and fines.  Furthermore, a conviction of driving with a suspended license will surely make it hard to get automobile liability insurance in the future.

Your license could be suspended if you drive without insurance, a conviction for driving while intoxicated or driving while impaired.  The severity of an alcohol related arrest will depend upon the Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) found in your system.  Should your BAC register greater than 0.18% you will be arrested for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated.  Upon a conviction for this offense your license will be suspended for a period of one year.  If your BAC is between 0.08% and under 0.18% you will be arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and your license can be suspended for a period of 6 months and you would be required to take an Impaired Drivers Program and a Victims Impact Panel.  You might also be required to install an Ignition Interlock Device.  These programs are both time consuming and expensive.

Your license may also be suspended if you are convicted of Driving While your ability is impaired and if you accumulate more than 11 points on your driving record.
